Answer  :- Writing in a diary was a strange experience for Anne Frank as she never had a diary and it was a gift on her 13th birthday. She considered it her best friend on which she relied the most and with whom shared all her ups and downs.

Answer  :- Anne always feels lonely and distressed so wents to get off all the burden and pain off her chest . She wants to keep a diary in which she finds a true friend as she has hardly any friends whom she could confide in .


3. Why did Anne think she could confide more in her diary than in people  ?

Answer  :- Anne felt that paper had more patience than people to listen to her plight . So, it was easier for her to write all kind of thoughts which she had in her mind . Her personal diary was not meant for any one else to read .

Answer  :- Anne justified her being a chatterbox in her essay by explaining what it is due to her mother who was also very talkative and nobody could do anything about their inherited traits .

Answer  :- Anne's last essay in the form of a poem showed Mr Keesing the lightning the lighter side of a naughty child . It helped bridge the generation gap between the teacher and the student.

1. Was Anne right when she said that the world would not be interested in the musings of a thirteen-year-old girl ?

Answer  :- Yes, Anne was right when she said so because most of the people don't went to give importance to a child's perspective towards the world because they are too immatur for the world. But Anne Frank has become one of the most discussed of all holocaust victims. Her 'diary' has been translated into many language .


2. There are some examples of diary or journal entries In the 'Before You Read' section. Compare these with what Anne writes in her diary . What Language was the diary ordinarily written in ? What way is Anne's diary different  ?

Answer  :- Anne's dairy was entirely different from most of the examples given before the text. It was somewhere closer to the memoir in which the name of Raj Kapoor has been mentioned. It was originally written in Dutch. It informal tone which exudes the careful nature of a teenager .


3. Why dose Anne need to given a brief sketch about her family  ? Dose she treat 'Kitty' as an insider or an outsider  ?

Answer  :- Anne gave in introduction of her family in the 'diary' because it was hard to make other realise that a 13 years old teenager cold write about her loneliness. Kitty was an 'outsider ' which was gifted by her parents on her 13th birthday but she considered it her best friend and treated as an insider. 


4. How dose Anne feel about her father, her grandmother. Mrs kuperus and Mr Keesing  ? What do these tell you about her ?

Answer  :- Anne has found memories of her father , grandmother, Mrs kuperus and Mr Keesing, who have left indelible impressions on her mind and affected her life a lot . The way she represents all of them in her diary revels that Anne was very good at understanding people and at developing international relations. 


5. What dose Anne write in her first essay ?

Answer  :- Mr Keesing asked her to write essay on the topic 'A Chatterbox' as punishment. In the essay  : she accepted the drawbacks of being talkative but argued that it is was in her genes as her mother was also very talkative. It was difficult to give up the habit and it was also a student's trait. Even Mr Keesing Laughed at the argument she had given. 


6. Anne says teachers are most unpredictable. Is Mr Keesing unpredictable  ? How ?

Answer  :- Anne took perfect example of Mr Keesing as an unpredictable teacher because Mr Keesing seemed to be indifferent towards Annes' behavior.  Earlier he Laughed but later he allowed Anne to talk in the class post reading her essay. 


7. What do these statements tel you about Anne Frank as a person  ?

(i) we don't seem to be able to get any closer  and that's the problem. Maybe it's my fault that we don't confide in each other .

Answer  :- Anne is reserved. 


(ii) I don't went to jot down the facts in this diary the way most people would, but I want the diary to be my friend. 

Answer  :- She is self-confident and inventive.


(iii) Margot went to Holland in December , and I followed in February, when I was plunked down on the table as a birthday present for Margot.

Answer  :- She is humorous as well .


(iv) if you ask me , there are so many dummies that about a quarter of the class should be kept back, but teachers are the most unpredictable creatures on earth. 

Answer  :- Anne is intelligent. 


(v) Anyone could ramble on and leave big spaces between the words, but the trick was to come up with convincing arguments to prove the necessary of talking.

This entry in diary has been made on    2nd September 2666  by    Sumuel Pepys.  The person who told pesos about the fire was called     Jane    . She called at     three    in the morning. Pepys went back to sleep because     he thought it was far enough.     Pepys rose again at    seven   in the morning. By then about    300    houses had been burned down. The fire had spread to         Fish Street      by Londo  Bridge. Pepys then walked to the      Tower     along with Sir J. Robinson's    little son .

1. How old do you think Amanda is ? How do you know this ?

Answer  :- Amanda is a young girl who is around 9-10 years old. She is young rebuked by her parents with typical instructions is quite common for children of her age . Her parents are trying to inculcate good manners and etiquette in her own good as she is very naive and innocent. 


2. Who do you think is speaking to her ?

Answer  :- Amanda is being spoken to by one of her parents. It is most likely that it's her mother, Generally speaking,  a mother is the first teacher for a child . She always tries to guide and instruct her child to follow the righteous path. Hence, from the range of instruction given to Amanda, it exhibits that the speaker is her mother. 


3. Why are Stanzas 2, 4 and 6 given in parenthes ?

Answer  :- Stanzes 2, 4 and 6 are given in parenthesis because they exhibit the inner thoughts and reactions form her mother given in Stanzas 1, 3 and 5. As there is an alternate sequence of scolding by Amanda's mother, she gives a corresponding reaction to it on the following Stanzas in parenthesis, Thus, the parenthesis is used by the poet to convey the parenthesis is used by the poet to convey the friendly tone of the poem. 


4. Who is the speaker in Stanzas 2, 4 and 6 ? Do you think this speaker is listening to the speaker in Stanzas 1, 3, 5, and 7 ?

Answer  :- The speaker of the Stanzas 2, 4 and 6 is the child, Amanda herself. No, she is not listening or paying heed to her mother's words in Stanzas 1, 4 and 5 as she is lost in her own dream world. Her imagination let's her escape from reality as she is lost in her own world. 


5. What could Amanda do if she were a mermaid ?

Answer  :- If Amanda were a mermaid , she could drift away slowly and carelessly on a languid emerald sea . She wished if she could be the sole inhabitant of the green area and wold slowly move on it , she longs for a place where she can be all by herself and depend on anybody else for her happiness. Amanda desired to be a mermaid because a mermaid symbolise liberty and wonder according to her .


6. Is Amanda an orphan ? Why dose she say so ?

Answer  :- No, Amanda is not an orphan. She says so because she wants to be on her own. She feels that she is being constantly nagged by her parents to follow their instructions. Being a little girl, she seeks 'golden ' silence and 'sweet' freedom and want to break all the norms. She wishes to roam around the streets alone and draw dust patterns with her bare feet. She draw dust patterns with her bare feet. She thinks if she were an orphan, she could do all of it without being nagged or rebuked by anyone and be all by herself. 


7. Do you know the story of Papunzrl ? Why dose she went to be Rapunzel ?

Answer  :- The story of Rapunzel revoles around her life on a high tower . She was loked in that tower by an evil witch . In due course of time , she got used to living there. She was very happy and content with her life in the towar. She had very long blonde her which was used by the witch to climb the tall tower. One fine day, a prince came to me meet her as he climbed the tower using her hair. When the witch came to know about it she punished both of them by separating them. Finally, after many years the couple united together forever. Similarly, Amanda wishes to live her life like Rapunzel on a yearns for freedom, peace and harmony. Due to this reason, Amanda wants to be like Rapunzel. Be disturbed, she would never let her bring hair down for anyone to climb to her. She simply desires a happy and satisfied life with no disturbance from others.


8. What dose the girl yearn for ? What dose this poem tell you about Amanda  ?

Answer  :- Amanda is a young girl who years for freedom and wents, she realise that she is incapable of fulfilling their expectations. Generally, children of Amanda's age have similar feelings irrespective of class, could or nationally. Although we all know that traditional societies always demand a well - mannered behavior from every person and the training of children by their parents play a significant role in mounding their personality. Most parents tend to ignore the innocence and understanding leave of their children and the young minds face termedous pressure from their elders that impact their imaginative power and form their elders that impacts their imaginative power and thoughts. 


9. Read the last stanza . Do you think Amanda is sulking and is moody ?

Answer   :- No, Amanda is neither sulking nor moody. She simply long for her freedom as she is fed up of following the instructions given by her parents. She has a strong imaginative power as she visualizes herself to the likes of Rapunzel's story and she wants to lead a carefree life free from all nagging and scolding from her parents who are always trying to teach mannerisms and inculcate good habits in her .
